.bank proposal gets lukewarm reception down under

F-Secure’s proposal for a .bank TLD has not met a warm reception by Australian banks according to this story from Computer World. Although when one digs deeper, there has only been comment from one of what are referred to as the “big 4” banks down under, and none of the smaller banks. So how representative the rejection of .bank is of all Australian banks, one can’t tell. The one bank that did comment, NAB, or National Australia Bank, said, “NAB isn’t convinced that this proposal would be effective for two main reasons: Studies suggest that consumers don’t necessarily differentiate between a legitimate dot com and one that isn’t legitimate; and the proposal also doesn’t address the question of Trojans as opposed to fake URLs.”
