Austria to press EU on data protection

Austria is set to press the European Union to tighten laws covering the interception of private data following Google’s admission that it obtained non-encrypted information while taking photographs for its Street View service.Josef Ostermayer, state secretary for media, on Friday told newspaper Der Standard that stronger EU data protection sanctions were necessary in order that companies were “not even tempted” to repeat Google’s mistake.
