The federal government is standing firm on building the multibillion-dollar national broadband network, which is due in flood-ravaged Toowoomba and some Brisbane suburbs in the second quarter of this year.Repairs to Telstra’s copper network would be made as the fastest way to restore telephone services in most flooded areas, but a spokeswoman for the Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy, said the government would also look at opportunities to replace the damaged network with fast-tracked optical fibre.To read this report in The Age and Sydney Morning Herald in full, see:
