The internet will soon take over from TV as Australia’s favourite entertainment source as the country reaches the “digital tipping point”.That’s according to Deloitte’s annual survey of media consumption, which found people are now as likely to rank the internet in their top three entertainment sources as they are TV.

The growing use of digital devices has ended television’s unrivalled dominance of Australian entertainment, a media consumption survey has found.Financial services firm Deloitte surveyed more than 2,300 people for its third annual snapshot.The vast majority of respondents said they owned a laptop, smart phone or tablet device.

About one-quarter of Australians plans to subscribe to an online television service in the next 12 months and in the next year, online will overtake TV as the preferred source of entertainment, a Deloitte Media Consumer Survey shows.Some 18 per cent of Australians say they use online catch-up services – such as ABC iView and Foxtel Go – to watch TV shows, a sign of how quickly television habits are changing.
