Australian telcos draw the line at latest Federal Government changes to national security laws

A battle is brewing between telecommunications companies and the Federal Government over further national security laws.The Coalition Government wants to force telcos to do more to protect their networks and infrastructure from attack, and wants to give itself the power to directly intervene in the companies when there is a security risk.

Telecommunication companies are fuming at a federal government proposal to force them to step up network protection efforts and grant power to bureaucrats to intervene in a security crisis.Communications Alliance chief executive John Stanton said the draft laws are too vague.
