Australian online surveillance under government microscope

As the relatively new adage goes: on the internet no one knows you’re a dog.But under proposals being considered by a parliamentary committee, law enforcement agencies could know not only who you are online, but who you communicate with.The “data retention” regime is a civil libertarian’s nightmare and is one of a number of amendments to national security legislation proposed by the Attorney-General’s Department and key law enforcement agencies to bolster surveillance and interception powers.
