Australian Greens raise concerns on cyber security laws

MARK COLVIN: There may be a hurdle in the way of the Federal Government’s proposed changes to cyber security laws. The new laws would let government agencies compel phone companies and internet carriers to preserve data needed for investigations. They would also make it easier for Australian police and spy agencies to share online information with foreign police. This morning a parliamentary committee held a hearing into the proposals. The Government says the authorities need the new powers to operate effectively in the online world. But the Greens who could block the new laws say they’ve got concerns about some of the proposals.
