Australia to sign European Cybercrime Convention

Australia will finally sign up to a global treaty aimed at fighting fraud and other offences committed using the internet such as computer hacking, child pornography and copyright infringement.

Australia will finally sign up to a global treaty aimed at fighting fraud and other offences committed using the internet such as computer hacking, child pornography and copyright infringement.Following discussions in Washington with US Attorney-General Eric Holder this week, federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland said Australia would accede to the Council of Europe’s Convention on Cybercrime.

The Federal Government has announced its intention to sign the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime.Australia will join the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and South Africa after the EU pushed for its convention to become the international standard on cybercrime.
