50,000 free .NG domain names have been released by the Nigerian registry, the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) with the aim of assisting to help Nigerians identify with the countryâs Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Registration commenced on 31 December and will run until 21 March and is part of a Re-branding Nigeria Project.
âThis sense of identification is tied to our perceptiveness of the collective responsibility required to project the true and appropriate Nigerian image and our conviction that the nationâs country code, Top Level Domain .NG, is a veritable tool towards achieving this,â the President of NiRA, Mary Uduma, told Nigeriaâs Daily Independent newspaper.
âTo this effect, we have chosen to partner with the Ministry of Information and Communications in the re-branding Nigeria Project with the offer of 50,000 free .NG domains in 50 days.â
The offer of free domains is restricted to the following second level domains, and normal eligibility rules apply:
- .com.ng
- .org.ng
- .name.ng
- .mobi.ng
- .sch.ng
Domain names registered as part of the promotion need to be in use within six months of registration or will be withdrawn or deleted.
