On 5 November, the five-millionth .RU domain name was registered, three years after the four millionth .ru domain was registered in September 2012.
The domain given the landmark registration was roominstyle.ru.
.RU is the sixth largest ccTLD and is the tenth largest of all TLDs. 94% of domain names are delegated, 22% of them are registered by legal entities, 78% â by individuals. 46% of domain names are websites, another 5% are used for a redirect.
“5,000,000 domain names in .RU is a serious point we all had been looking forward to. Despite not the best economic situation, we have reached this rate. This means that the Russian Internet will develop rapidly. More than 870,000 domain names are in the second Russian national Cyrillic domain .Ð Ð¤, there is a registration in new Russian domains .ÐÐÐ¢Ð, .ÐÐÐ¡ÐÐÐ, .MOSCOW, .TATAR, .Ð Ð£Ð¡, and others. So, the general number of the Russian domain space is coming to 6 million names”, â said Andrei Vorobyov, the Coordination Center CEO. .RU was delegated to Russia by ICANN on April 7, 1994. The first million was registered in 2007. One and a half more years later, the zone expanded twice, and three times by September, 2010. In September, 2012, there were 4,000,000 names in the domain.
33 accredited registrars work in .RU today. REG.RU (market share in the domain makes 31%), Ru-Center (29%), R01 (16%), Ragtime (7%), and SaleNames (5,5%) are the largest of them.
