Applications are being called for people interested in attending the third European School on Internet Governance (Euro-SSIG ) with applications closing on May 15, 2009. This year’s course is scheduled to run from July 26 to August 1 and will be held in Meissen (near Dresden), Germany.Euro-SSIG is held annually at the end of July. It is a one week academic course (48 hours) covering the political, legal, economic, socio-cultural, technological and other dimensions of the governance of the Internet.The course includes practical oriented lectures covering the management of critical Internet resources as well as the development of the domain name market. Each academic lecture is followed by a Q&A Session. There are smaller more practical oriented workshops, round tables and case presentations as well as students project. Evening events with “Snacks & Wine” are for interactive communication among faculty and fellows. Students will get a “Certificate” for the successful participation in the Summer School.The Internet, with more than 1.5 billion users worldwide, is the most important infrastructure in the information age. It influences policies, economics and cultures global and local. Internet issues like security and stability, freedom of expression, privacy, eCommerce, new market opportunities, protection of intellectual property, fight against cybercrime, infrastructure development, digital divide, network neutrality, Internet of things etc. make its way into national and international political agendas. For some experts Internet Governance will become as important as climate change or energy today. Insofar it is only natural that the way how and by whom the Internet is governed, is a highly controversial issue in the diplomacy of the 21st century.Euro-SSIG helps interested students and academics as well as individuals working in the private sector or in government, to understand better the global Internet Governance controversy and to get a comprehensive and structured knowledge on the various aspects of Internet Governance.Members of the faculty are outstanding international experts from the world leading universities and experienced manages from the Internet community who have actively participated in WSIS, WGIG, IGF and ICANN.Euro-SSIG is organized by the University of Aarhus and the Medienstadt Leipzig e.V., a recognised “At Large Structure” (ALS) under ICANN Bylaws.
