In one week’s time on 15 March it will be the 30th anniversary of the first domain name registered – symbolics.com. Back in 1985 were eight top level domains to choose from – .com, .org, .net, .edu .gov, .uk, us and il.To commemorate the upcoming anniversary, the European Domain Centre has published an infographic showing the year in which each of the now 800+ TLDs were introduced.By 1997 most ccTLDs had been delegated with only a handful being each year, if any, added until 2014, when the first of the new gTLDs were delegated.
The infographic is available at blog.europeandomaincentre.com/infographic-know-domain-endings-com-whatever/ but if you are on a PC then check out blog.europeandomaincentre.com/do-you-know-all-domain-endings/ for the interactive version (make sure to watch it with sound).
