AFNIC, the registry for .FR (France) domain names have announced they reached 1.5 million domain name registrationson 10 September.
The landmark domain name was purportedly registered by a group of professional performers based in Haute-Savoie called Les Secoués du Vocal. Its website, www.lessecouesduvocal.fr, draws back the curtain on the shows, singing lessons, workshops/musical comedies etc. offered by these performers, who have decided to go for.FR.
Following a liberalisation of the domain name registration rules, .FR registrations have grown rapidly from 100,000 in October 2002, 500,000 in July 2006 and one million in January 2008.
The .FR ccTLD represents 80 per cent of the net growth in the domain name market in France in 2008/2009, with a 25 per cent increase in volume compared to 10 per cent for the market as a whole!
The increase also shows the value registrants have in a domain name that represents their own country and registration rules with few restrictions.
