China Tightens Regulations for Videos, Films Produced By Internet Sites

[IDG] Chinese regulators are cracking down on inappropriate video and films made by the nation's Internet firms with new measures meant to encourage the production of more positive programs.

On Monday, China's State Administration of Radio Film and Television, along with the State Internet Information Office, issued a notice meant to both guide and standardize the "healthy development" of Internet series, short films and other online video and audio content.

China's broadcasting and Internet regulators have told Internet video providers that they must prescreen all programs before making them available, tightening state censorship of increasingly popular online drama series and mini-movies.

The new rule was issued jointly by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) and the State Internet Information Office.
