Japanese police boost efforts to tackle rise in child pornography cases

The National Police Agency stepped up efforts Thursday to tackle the spread of child pornography, assigning around 10 agency employees to analyze Internet images and to cooperate with foreign investigative authorities after the number of child porn cases in Japan hit a record high in 2009.

Japan has been criticized for being a global supplier of online child pornography because it does not prohibit the possession of such images.
